A Guide on Installing Inflatable Spa Covers or Hot Tub Covers
Installing a spa cover or hot tub cover is an easy task that can be completed quickly. Below are tips to guide you when installing your typical inflatable spa cover or hot tub cover.
- To begin with, fill up your spa or hot tub with the right amount of water required for proper operation, as per the recommendations of the manufacturer. This is especially important if your spa cover or hot tub cover will be resting right on the water surface.
- Next, distinguish between the top and bottom of the cover by looking at the location of the valves. Your typical cover should have the valves located on its bottom side which will rest atop the water. If the spa water is not heated, avoid fully inflating the cover. This is because the cover could become overinflated once the air inside it begins to heat up, as you heat up the spa water.
- In order to inflate the cover, you will need to fold it back and expose the valves on its underside. Open the flap of the valve you want to fill up with air. Use a plastic funnel to prop open the inner check valve and divert air into your cover. Use a shop vac with an exhaust port to hook into the hose or a leaf blower to move a volume of air into the cover. Although an air compressor would be just as effective, this would take longer because it moves air under pressure.
- Begin by first inflating the top valve until it is filled up with about 8 inches of air. Next, inflate the bottom unmarked chamber to the desired level. You may then close up the valves and centre your spa cover or hot tub cover on the spa, while ensuring that it is able to evenly cover the entire spa or hot tub.
- Place fasteners as required. These are great in enabling spa covers and hot tub covers to retain their shape, prevent the escape of moisture and provide for better insulation. Ensure that the fasteners are equally spaced and reach below the acrylic of the spa. If the spa or hot tub has a wood lip protruding farther than the acrylic, have the fasteners at least 3 inches below this. If while installing the fasteners you find it difficult to fasten the cover on the last side, this means that there is too much air in the cover and you need to let some out.
