Research released in May 2011 and funded by United Nations Programme on HIV/ AID (UNAIDS) has made a breakthrough towards halting the AIDs epidemic. New HIV infections in the UK have doubled in the last 10 years according to data from the Health Protection Agency. Cases have risen from around 2000 in 2001 to nearer to 4000 in 2010.
